Indulge without expanding

Friday, November 28th, 2008

The holidays are a wonderful time to be spent with friends, family and food. While I am a firm believer in second helpings, I’ve also found a way to get my sweet fix through beauty.¬† Here are some of my fat free, zero calorie beauty goodies.

Jaqua-Cocoa Buttercream Frosting

This guilt-free Cocoa Butter Cream indulgence set by Jaqua is a different take on their immensely popular Butter Cream fragrance. This set includes Body Butter, Shower Cream and Hand Cream. Available at Bath & Body Works.

Slatkin & Co.- Vanilla Coconut Candle

Slatkin & Co.’s Vanilla Coconut Candle is absolutely to die for. It’s a very comforting and delicious scent. One candle is enough to fill a room with sweet vanilla-coconut goodness. However, if you are a candle enthusiast like myself, you’re going to want one for every room of the house. Available at Bath & Body Works.

Pink Sugar

Aquolina’s Pink Sugar Eau De Toilette Fragrance is girly, warm and grown up. It’s a nostalgic scent (notes include caramel and vanilla), but it’s not overpowering (a.k.a. people will not mistake you for a cotton candy stand at the state fair). Bonus: they also make a men’s fragrance called Blue Sugar, a great gift for the sweetie in your life.

Ooey Gooey S'mores Lip Shine

What’s better than a s’more? Not much. Philosophy’s Oeey Gooey S’mores Flavored Lip Shine is super emollient and makes me feel like I’m back in my old Brownie Troupe earning patches, making friends and singing around a campfire.

The ELIZA wedding

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

ELIZA Magazine’s Winter issue, out in December, includes some fabulous wedding fashions and the best bridal designers. As we searched for classic wedding dresses and timeless bridal trends to put in our marriage issue, we also uncovered a new wedding dress designer–a unique bridal headwear company, and a wedding location to die for. Here are three of those wedding finds to get you excited. Not an ELIZA Subscriber? Hurry, you are not going to want to miss it in the winter issue.¬†Subscribe here.

The Wedding Accessory

True Birds is an accessory line created by two twin sisters. They specialize in feathered headwear, but have recently tried their hands at bridal accessories. Check out “Wedding Bliss,” which is $68 or have them customize one for $115.

The Wedding Location

While shooting our winter fashion story, Cabin Fever, we discovered the most adorable bed and breakfast in Big Bear, California. If you are looking for a beautiful mountain landscape for your wedding, look no further. Alpenhorn is known for the charming decor, breathtaking surrounding, and homemade yummies. And now they can add: perfect wedding destination. Since they have started doing weddings on the premises they have gotten rave reviews. Probably because they help with all the extra details: linens for the gazebo, minister, music, beauty salon, couples massages, chocolate covered strawberries, etc.

The Wedding Dress Designers

A brand new designer has come to ELIZA Magazine’s attention. Alleanza (’to covenant’ in Italian) is a mother/daughter team¬†which designs fashionable and classy wedding gowns with exquisite French laces and other desirable fabrics. Look for the full article in our winter issue.

Chapstick. Who knew?

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

Autumn’s response to the intro of make-up:

“I like things au natural. ¬†If my lips are chapped, means I should drink more water, change my diet ect. ¬†So when Summer gave me a new chapstick to try out I raised a wary eyebrow and let out an inward sigh. Then I went camping and my lips got chaffed by the desert wind. So I gave in. But guess what, the chapstick she gave me, balms with benefits, actually says ‘healing you naturally’ on the label. I got the chamomile vanilla blend that’s supposed to help out with stress and anxiety. Now when I inwardly sigh when thinking about chapstick, it’s with contentment, cause I’m still natural, but able to try new things.”
