Monday, July 12th, 2010Can’t Get Enough Twilight?
Tuesday, March 16th, 2010If your salivating for more Twilight or have been meaning to read the acclaimed novel, pick up the just released - new rendition of the suspenseful love story of Bella and Edward in Graphic Novel form.¬† Graphic novel…the term itself brings to mind adolescent males, but this stylish artwork paired with the enthralling storyline may challenge the stereotype.¬† I too was surprised at how enthralling and even beautiful every page is, so much so that I needed to recommend the Eliza girls take a chance on it as well.
The stunning artwork was designed by Korean artist, Young Kim and was overseen by Mrs. Meyer herself.¬† The genius of Young Kim’s drawings is that the characters don’t simply look like the stars of the Movie, Kristen Stewart (Bella) and Rob Pattinson (Edward), in fact the characters seem to be an amalgam of Meyer’s literary imagination and the actors’ actual looks.
The price is budget friendly and can be found on Amazon by clicking here.

Emma on PBS
Sunday, February 14th, 2010
The fabulous new adaptation of Jane Austen‚Äôs Emma on PBS‚Äôs Masterpiece series recently caught my eye and I fell in love with Romola Garai’s portrayal of Emma so much that I had to share this find with the Eliza girls.
If you’re not familiar with this Austen book, think back to 1995 and chances are you saw the fashionable hit Clueless and might not have known it was a modern day rendition of Emma. If you loved Clueless then most likely, you’ll enjoy this mini series. And like Clueless, you’ll be pushing the pause button to get a better look at Emma and the cast’s amazing (and modest) dresses and accessories.
All three episodes can be watched free HERE on the PBS website or you can click HERE to purchase the DVD box set, which I highly recommend.

Twilight Saga’s New Moon and other Stephenie Meyer news.
Monday, December 7th, 2009I finally saw New Moon and am here with my report. As with many a Twilight fans world-wide, when I read the books, I devoured Twilight and then spent most of New Moon wondering when and if the Cullens were ever going to return. Amazingly, I felt the film did a great job at rectifying this problem with the amount of chemistry between Bella and Jacob.
(I know, I know. I had to pick the ONE picture of Jacob with his shirt on. I’m cruel, what can I say?)
Taylor Lautner’s boyish good looks and charming personality made the film move quickly and enjoyably through the absence of our favorite vampires. I can even almost understand where the idea of team Jacob comes from now. Almost… (LONG LIVE TEAM EDWARD! =P)
In other Stephenie Meyer related news, I’m excited to say that there is a possibility of The Host being turned into a trilogy! Big time YAY for that, because I am such a huge fan of this book! (And will be first in line to see the movie when it comes out!) If you happened to miss Stephenie Meyer’s one and only interview on Oprah, here’s a link to an interesting backstage interview where she talks about her upcoming projects.

Make sure you check it out, and if you have never read any further than the Twilight Saga, be sure to read The Host. You might just find you like it better. I know I do!
Knowledge even more stylish with iTunes U
Monday, September 7th, 2009
Audrey Hepburn once said, “A quality education has the power to transform societies in a single generation, provide children … the knowledge, skills, and confidence to reach their full potential.”
iTunes seems to agree as it continues to build its iTunes U collection. This compilation of downloadable podcasts is possibly the largest free set of educational media accessible.
With over 100,000 audio and video files, colleges and high schools have given students access to lectures, speeches and more via computers and mobile phones.
Courses include languages, literary discussions and how-to’s. The best part is that you don‚Äôt have to be a student to listen in!
So take a class today by visiting the iTunes U page.
Technology & Friendship
Tuesday, April 28th, 2009We got a lot of positive interest from our Spring 2008 article, “Is Porn really a harmless pleasure?” So, we wanted to introduce you to a new book from the girls and, in addition, asked them a few relevant questions.

Since our Spring 2009 issue celebrates best friends, we thought Karen and Danielle would have some special insight.
How can today’s technologies (cell phones, Internet, social networking sites, etc.) affect friendships? Do these things positively or negatively affect girlfriends, ordo they promote cattiness?
Karen Child Ogden, MFT, Contributor to the Temptation Series
Technology has made it possible to look up old friends, communicate quicker and in more creative ways than ever before. But be careful not to rely on technology as a sole means to maintaining friendships. Counting your friends online is an easy way to feel like you’ve got friends. However, true friendships are created and maintained in real time through person-to-person interaction, sharing experiences and supporting one another.
True friends bring out the best in one another. The problem with online relationships (or those maintained via text messaging, chat and email) is that people don’t get to practice vital interpersonal communication skills. Oftentimes, information gets misinterpreted via technology resulting in hurt feelings, miscommunication and cattiness.¬† Pick up the phone and invite a girlfriend to lunch, practice listening and communicating with your girlfriends. There’s nothing better than bonding with, laughing with, and enjoying a good girlfriend!
Danielle Tiano, Author of the Temptation Series
“Girlfriends” - a contradiction in today’s world.  We have a quicker way to communicate but we’ve forgotten how to talk to one another.  We have a greater understanding of words, but we write in codes.  We have a faster way to get in touch but we are too busy to talk.  We obtain more knowledge from the Internet but we do not share our insight.  We have hundreds of girlfriends on MySpace and Facebook, even though most women only have one true girlfriend to go to when we they need them the most.  We text too much and talk too seldom.  We hold more judgment and less forgiveness. The screen has become our new excuse to be mean. We portray what we think others want us to be, rather than what we believe is reality.  We make large promises and offer short solutions. We want to be accepted more than we want to be understood. We have lost each other through technology and allowed our devices to control our relationships.  Building solid friendships takes real life experiences with moments shared in person.  Every new year brings new challenges.  This year challenge yourself to strengthen your friendships to a higher level.

A Generation Lost in Translation is a great way to open a discussion with your pre-teen about cell phone use and communication.¬†Also check out the pairs’ newest book on cyber bullying,¬†Don’t Hit Send Just To Fit In.¬†Get more information on the Temptation Series here and buy their books¬†here to find insight on what your kids are going through and how you can help.
